How to compare a trip honestly: like for like
Cheaper is not the same product. Match dates, room, cancellation, and breakfast first. Then look at the price gap.

The shortest path to self-deception is comparing different products and calling the gap “membership savings.”
What must match before price
- Check-in and check-out dates.
- Room category / view / bed type.
- Cancellation policy (refundable vs non-refundable is already another product).
- Breakfast and other inclusions.
- Taxes and fees: what is in the rate, what is paid on site.
If that is missing from the card, the comparison is not ready. Say “data missing,” do not declare a win.
Why Travel Check exists
I ask for the hotel, the dates, and what you already found. Then I look at Travorium options as close as possible to that picture. I do not book for you, and I do not claim “the club is always cheaper.”
What I will not do
- Swap a luxury room for a basic one.
- Promise that a sample price will still be there on payment day.
- Turn one good example into “this happens for everyone.”
An honest result comes in three shapes: better on these terms; about the same; on these dates membership does not win. The third answer is useful too — it saves someone else’s expectation.
Build the comparison before looking at the difference
Open two offers for the same property and travel dates. Check the number and ages of guests, the exact room category, bed arrangement and meal plan. A sea-view room with breakfast is a different offer from a standard room without meals, even when both results show the same hotel name.
Then compare payment timing and cancellation. A prepaid, non-refundable rate and a flexible rate can both be reasonable choices, but the price difference partly purchases different conditions. Record that difference instead of describing the entire gap as a discount.
An illustrative comparison
Suppose one fictional offer is 800 units of the same currency, including breakfast, while another is 750 without breakfast. If you would spend 80 on equivalent breakfasts, the second option would total 830 on that assumption. The lower room price would not be the lower total for that traveler.
These are invented teaching figures, not Travorium prices or an actual booking result. Their purpose is to show why the relevant comparison is the cost of the stay you intend to consume. If you would skip breakfast, use that preference instead; do not add a cost you would never incur.
Keep the result reproducible
Save the time checked, currency, number of nights and booking conditions. Note whether taxes and mandatory charges are included, payable at the property or still unknown. If currency conversion is required, record the conversion assumption and any payment fee separately.
A comparison can end with a lower price, better conditions for a similar price, no material advantage or insufficient information. All four are useful outcomes. An unresolved tax or room-category difference is a reason to investigate further.
What to send for a private check
Include the property or destination, dates, guest details and the public offer you want compared. Describe any conditions you would not give up, such as free cancellation or a particular room type. Avoid sending payment-card details, passport scans or account passwords.
Use the private Travel Check form. Recheck availability and the final booking terms before payment: a comparison records a moment in time, not a reservation.
